Artists in residence, July 2023

Liddy Scheffknecht

Within the Artist-in-Residence Program, CCA is delighted to host artist Liddy Scheffknecht. Born in 1980 in Dornbirn, Austria, Scheffknecht uses light and shadow as mediums to create her photos and installations. She makes "shadow-paintings" and uses natural light trough windows as much as artificial ones, with help of video projectors. She is specially interested in manifestations of the passing of time, and plays with optic illusion to trouble the viewer’s perception. This way, she creates a surreal ambiance which questions the immobility of photography. Liddy currently lives and works in Wien and will be staying in Studio Amarillo during July 2023.

Kilian Rüthemann

Within the Artist-in-Residence Program, CCA is delighted to host artist Kilian Rüthemann. Born in 1979 in Bütschwil, Switzerland, he went to the School of Art and Design of Basel from 2002 to 2005 after working as a stone sculptor in Zuzwil for five years. His aesthetic is minimalistic and he often use industrial materials. He is interested in the playing and exploration of the places structure and carries out on-site installations where he targets architectural and sculptural interventions. His works combine themes of power and urgency with a sensible absurdity. He currently lives and works in Basel and will be staying in Studio Azul during July 2023.

Judith Kakon

Within the Artist-in-Residence Program, CCA is delighted to host artist Judith Kakon. Born in 1998 in Basel, Switzerland, she obtained her Bachelor in 2013 in the Bezalel Akadémie für Kunst un Design in Jerusalem and her Master in 2016 in New York. Her mediums are sculpture and installation but also the use of images and text sources. For her the exhibitions are a medium in themselves. She pays close attention to the places she exposes in and works with the contradictory networks of the social laws in which we inhabit. She produces and installs objects that seem to have a purpose but don’t. It confuses our perception of urban objects and projects an absurd image of our society. She often uses found objects and changes their location to make them useless. Judith currently lives and works in Basel and will be staying in Studio Azul during July 2023.

Almudena Lobera

Almudena uses all kinds of artistic mediums to express herself, ranging from drawing to performance, sculpture and installation. She works particularly with human perception, and how we can find visual solutions to construction problems. She pays close attention to the places she works in and plays with their social, cultural and political contexts. She likes to weave them into a narrative that questions the relationship between reality and post-produced image. She currently lives and works in Belgium and will be staying in Studio Rojo during July 2023.
