Artists in residence, January 2023
Noé Martínez
Within the Artists-in-Residence Program, CCA is delighted to host the artist Noé Martínez. Born in 1986 in Morelia, Michoacán, he studied at the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado la Esmeralda in Mexico City. Noe works with the legacy of native peoples and colonial history to make visible problems that afflict contemporary Mexico. Language, identity, the process of colonisation in the 16th century, the processes of struggle and vindication of indigenous communities, as well as social and community manifestations, are recurring topics in his pieces, which range from editorial projects to drawings, videos and installations. Noe currently lives and works in Mexico City and will be staying in Studio Azul during January 2023.
Maria Sosa Ruiz
Within the Artists-in-Residence Program, CCA is delighted to host the artist María Sosa Ruiz. Born in 1985 in Morelia Michoacán, Sosa holds a degree in Visual Arts from the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolas de Hidalgo in 2018. Her work is based on the exploration of research in the Ecology of Knowledge as well as the exploration of production techniques of pre-Hispanic and contemporary ritual objects. Her work reflects the search for the colonial past and the way in which it constitutes contemporary social events and dynamics. María currently lives and works in Mexico City and will be staying in Studio Rojo during January 2023.
Kalina Horon
Within the Artists-in-Residence Program, CCA is delighted to host the artist Kalina Horon. Born in 1992 in Poland, Horon holds a MFA Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. In her current painting practice, Kalina discovers the possibilities of an abstract visual language, based on free improvisation. She uses direct forms and colors to achieve a visual power that is often seen in children's drawings, gestural abstraction, cave paintings or graffiti. Deriving from her knowledge about rules of composition and theory of colour combination, she creates paintings in which all forms correspond with each other, infect each other, to build a final, perfectly balanced structure and aesthetically influence the viewer. Kalina currently lives and works in Vienna and will be staying in Studio Amarillo during January 2023.
Bastian Birk Thuesen
Within the Artists-in-Residence Program, CCA is delighted to host the artist Bastian Birk Thuesen. Born in 1989 in Denmark, Birk graduated from Fine Art Photography at The Glasgow School of Art in 2017. Bastian approaches his works from a variety of angles often resulting in a mixed media outcome. Photography, sound, sculpture and other installation based works are often present in his exhibitions. Being interested in science and its approach to information and experimentation, he connects his work to the scientific model but with a different aim. Bastian currently lives and works in Glasgow and Copenhagen and will be staying in Studio Verde during January 2023.
