Artists in residence, October 2023

Markus Proschek

Within the Artist-in-Residence Program, CCA is delighted to host artist Markus Proschek. Born in 1981 in Schwarzach, Austria, Proschek’s elaborated paintings and installations often evolve around topics concerning the relationship between history and ideology, narratives that are inscribed into our perception of (historical) objects and imagery. He examines our attitudes towards these witnesses of the past between documentation and fiction. A proposal of history as a continuous nonlinear process, permanently reshaped by our expectations and desires in a “long now“ of simultaneous layers. Markus currently lives and works in Vienna and will be staying in Studio Verde during October 2023.

Markus Hanakam & Roswitha Schuller

Within the Artist-in-Residence Program, CCA is delighted to host artists Markus Hanakam (b. 1979, Essen, Alemania) & Roswitha Schuller (b. 1984, Friesach, Austria). Many of the works by the artist duo Hanakam & Schuller are shapeshifters, changing their outer form and then reappearing in a variety of contexts. As artists and explorers, Markus Hanakam and Roswitha Schuller redesign the rules of the fine arts for their own purposes and create unconventional arrangements and new world designs in videos and objects. They also work with applied artforms. Markus and Roswitha currently live and work in Vienna and will be staying in Studio Azul during October 2023.

Christof John

Within the Artist-in-Residence Program, CCA is delighted to host artist Christof John, born in 1984 in Hannover, Germany. John’s works respond to the constantly changing vision between close-up and distant views with a "never-ending picture", as he himself characterises his practice. Just as image impressionfollows image impression, varying sequences of the grids and colour combinations on which a work is based alternate, describing both a certain order and its constantly mutating change. Christof currently lives and works between Cologne and Berlin.

Brigitte Waldach

Born in 1966 in Berlin, Germany she studied pedagogy and art theory and painting at the University of the Arts in Berlin. Waldach has always focused his creativity on how to translate our perception of reality in order to create new images and spaces. Through the use of the colour red in contrast to blank or empty spaces, she takes our mind into a completely different environment and experiencing her work opens a door that once crossed will make us translate our own perceptions of life in a way we would never have thought of before. Brigitte currently lives and works in Berlin and will be staying in Studio Amarillo during October 2023.
