CCA Artist-in-Residence Prize

Presented in a large, open-plan space outside the main town of Ibiza, CAN is an art fair that presents a carefully thought-through selection of the world’s most exciting galleries to introduce the work of some of the most refreshing and recognized artists of the current times. CAN is hoping to boost the creativity that has always existed in Ibiza. In summer and for 5 days, the island will become a meeting point for artists, art collectors, enthusiasts, and personalities of the local and international cultural scene. CAN will bring together international galleries, mainly from Europe, America, and Asia, and present more than 100 artists under one roof.

CCA ANDRATX ANNOUNCES THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2023 CAN ART FAIR CCA ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PRIZE | TARIQ OLIVER

We are excited to announce the recipient of the 2023 CAN Art Fair CCA Artist-in-Residence Prize is the talented Nigerian artist Tariq Oliver (NG, 1983), represented by 1969 Gallery in New York.

We have been delighted to be part of 2023 CAN Art Fair thanks to this collaboration. We are specially thrilled with the opportunity to participate in quality artistic initiatives taking place in the Balearic Islands, giving support to promising young artists and encouraging exchanges with international artists.

The CCA Artist-in-Residence Prize honors an outstanding position within the artists participating at CAN Art Fair and recognizes the work of the talented Tariq Oliver.

@tariq_oliver explores the complexities of interpersonality and human emotion. He has an international background, having lived in Nigeria, the UK, Spain, and America. Through shifting and distorted portraits, he strives to portray the compounding trauma and suffering that everyone seems to experience in an increasingly globalized world.

The Prize carries a one-month Residency at the CCA Studios during the year 2024. For more than twenty years, our studios located in the core of the World Heritage Site Sierra de Tramuntana in Andratx (Mallorca) have been a unique space of retreat for artists, allowing them to create at the island’s own rhythm and nature.
